Key Advantages

16F to 8×2F Breakout

One MPO-16 interface fans out into eight duplex LC links, allowing direct distribution of sixteen OM4 fibers to duplex optical ports.

Equipment-Side Connectivity

Suitable for rack-level connections between compatible parallel-optics ports and multiple LC duplex equipment interfaces.

Controlled Fiber Mapping

Type B or project-specific mapping helps align each MPO fiber position with the intended LC transmit and receive channel.

Custom Project Configuration

Main cable length, breakout leg length, jacket, labeling and packaging can be configured for the actual rack layout.

Cable Structure

This OM4 breakout harness uses one MPO-16 / MTP-16 APC connector on one end and eight LC duplex UPC connectors on the other. A dedicated breakout section organizes sixteen fibers into eight duplex channels for cleaner equipment-side routing.

Connector A: 1× MPO-16 / MTP-16 APC Female

Connector B: 8× LC Duplex UPC

Fiber: 16× OM4 Multimode Fibers

Identification: LC01–LC08 labeling available

Jacket: LSZH / OFNP options

16-Fiber to 8× LC Duplex Mapping

product-1300-760

Each LC duplex connection uses two fibers. The sixteen fiber positions on the MPO-16 side therefore provide eight duplex LC channels on the breakout side.

Correct channel mapping is essential because every transmit and receive lane must reach the intended endpoint. Type B is a common configuration, while project-specific mapping can be produced when required by the optical modules or cabling architecture.

Recommended RFQ information: optical-module model, MPO gender, polarity, LC port sequence and breakout-leg length.

400GBASE-SR8 to 8×50G Breakout

A compatible 400GBASE-SR8 interface uses sixteen multimode fibers. An MPO-16 to 8×LC duplex harness can distribute those fibers into eight duplex links when the optical modules and equipment topology are designed for this breakout architecture.

Typical path:
400G QSFP-DD SR8 → MPO-16 APC → 16F OM4 Harness → 8× LC Duplex UPC → 8×50G Optical Interfaces

This configuration is useful for Top-of-Rack switching, server and NIC connectivity, AI/HPC fabrics and staged data-center migration projects.

FAQ

Q: What is an MPO-16 to 8× LC duplex breakout cable?

A: It is a 16-fiber harness with one MPO-16 / MTP-16 connector on one end and eight LC duplex connections on the other. Each LC duplex link uses two fibers, so sixteen fibers provide eight duplex links.

Q: Can this cable be used for 400GBASE-SR8 breakout?

A: Yes, when the optical modules and channel design use a compatible 16-fiber SR8 interface and eight duplex endpoints. A common application is a 400G SR8 port breaking out to eight 50G optical links.

Q: Why is the MPO-16 side APC while the LC side is UPC?

A: The polishing format follows the mating equipment interface. MPO-16 SR8 applications commonly use APC on the MPO side, while multimode LC equipment interfaces commonly use UPC.

Q: What polarity should I choose?

A: Polarity must match the optical modules and intended channel map. Type B is common, but the final mapping should be confirmed from the transceiver and cabling architecture.

Q: Can the main cable length and breakout-leg length be customized?

A: Yes. Main cable length, breakout-leg length, LC01–LC08 labeling, jacket and packaging can be configured according to the rack layout and project requirements.

Q: Is this the same as an 8-fiber MPO-to-LC harness?

A: No. A 16-fiber MPO-16 harness provides eight duplex LC links, while an 8-fiber harness generally provides four duplex LC links. The fiber count must match the optical interface.
